obale i gradića Puerto Limón.
sokovi neverovatnih ukusa. U tom romantičnom ambijentu, sa obe strane glavne
ulice, nalaze se drvene kuće u kolonijalnom stilu, pastelnih boja,
pretvorene u male hotele i pansione sa ogromnim terasama i fino rezbarenim
ogradama.
polovini XVIII veka. Danas je to moderan grad, u kome živi trećina
stanovnika ove male i mirne centralnoameričke zemlje. Politička i ekonomska

Endless banana plantations stretch from the capital city San José to the
Caribbean coast and the little town of Puerto Limón. It is rainy season and
big birds with even bigger beaks have spread their wings drying them in the
sun, while they hang from branches like gigantic bats. The little town is
situated in the jungle, vines from above almost touching your glass, while
you sit in a street café serving freshly squeezed juice, made of various
tropical plants. Fruit is abundant here and it is impossible to memorise all
the names, some of which are difficult to pronounce, but the juices you get
to try taste incredible. In this romantic setting, on both sides of the main
street you can find wooden houses in the colonial style, painted in pastel
shades that have been turned into hotels and pensions with huge balconies
and railings with intricate woodwork. Washed out shirts, belonging to the
young adventurers, are hung to dry on the railing; perched on balconies they
cheerfully wave to the newly arrived visitors.
In mid-town, up in the huge treetops, a few big sloths are hanging
completely still on their claws, without almost any movement. Actually they
are so slow motion that they appear like some cute long-haired monsters,
observed by the curious people below, who spend a long time watching them
and waiting for them to make the slightest move. This waiting sometimes
lasts too long for some and they lose patience and leave, happy that at
least they have seen the sloths hidden in the branches of tall tropical
trees.
Puerto Limón is a very romantic place with a tropical climate, yet on the
Atlantic coast. It differs from San José, which is situated on a plane and
has mild temperatures, lovely parks, narrow streets with buildings in the
colonial style. Almost everything in this city is small and low, adjusted to
a comfortable lifestyle in a stable country where tourism is not the meaning
of life; it is rather the beauty of a quiet life.
San José is one of the youngest capitals in South America and was founded in
the first half of the 18th century. Today it is a modern city where about
one third of the population of this small and peaceful Central American
country resides. Political and economic stability, so unusual in this
region, makes Costa Rica attractive to visitors of all kinds, whether they
are tourists or businesspeople.
So it is no surprise that according to the Happy Planet Index criteria for a
nice and comfortable life, Costa Rica has ranked as one of the happiest
countries in the world for years.
